IRD's VI2M? Traffic Data Software Suite Receives Positive Response at ITS World Congress

Advancing Transportation Intelligence

International Road Dynamics Inc. (IRD), the world leader in weigh-in-motion technology, successfully launched the Vehicle Information in Motion (VI²M™) software suite at ITS World Congress, which was held October 29 to November 2, 2017 at the Palais des Congrès de Montréal, in Montreal, Canada. The ITS World Congress was produced by ITS America in conjunction with ITS Canada and co-organized by ERTICO-ITS Europe and ITS Asia-Pacific.
ITS World Congress delegates were able to view a live demonstration of the VI²M™ central data reporting software at IRD’s exhibit. Delegates were able to view live data from sensors and demonstrations of the creation of standard and customized traffic data reports. The cloud-based solution is a highly effective platform for aggregating data from multiple sites with different functions and different types of sensors. It is highly accessible, providing access to reporting, analysis and monitoring capabilities through a widget-based user interface. VI²M™ is designed to assist transportation professionals in unlocking the value of information collected at commercial vehicle operations and traffic data collection sites on their road networks.
New case studies on the use of Virtual Weigh Station (VWS) data and the TACS™ Tire Anomaly and Classification System also generated much discussion at the IRD stand. Georgia DOT used VWS data to plan their response to the Hurricane Irma evacuation in real time. Ongoing studies on TACS™ in Oklahoma are demonstrating the sensor suite’s effectiveness as a screening tool for commercial vehicles with tire anomalies that could result in the vehicles being put out of service.

Mr. Terry Bergan, IRD’s President and CEO stated, “We are pleased at the strong interest shown by departments of transportation and road operators in IRD’s new technologies like VI²M™ and TACS™ at ITS World Congress. These new technologies present great opportunities for improved efficiencies in traffic data monitoring and commercial vehicle enforcement programs. VI²M™ is truly the next generation platform for traffic data and reporting, and TACS™ studies are showing that our multi-year investment in sensor development will result in more accurate weighing at automated inspection stations, and overall improvements in road safety through the identification of anomalous tires.”
